The first grapes arrived in Peru in 1553 by the Morques Francisco de Caravantes, it is very likely that he brought them from the Canary Islands. In
1563 the cultivation of vineyards in the valleys of Ica began, with the intention of producing their own wines. Over the years the adaptation of the vine to the local climate and the
experimentation of winemaking, resulted in the viceroyalty of Peru being the main wine producers during the sixteenth century. Until now it is not known with certainty where pisco
originated.
